Celebrating Black History Month at Mt. Calvary:

A Month of Pride, Culture, and Unity Black History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the incredible contributions of Black individuals throughout history. Here at Mt. Calvary, we believe in the power of unity and culture, and we’re excited to bring the community together this February for an awareness-driven celebration! We’re encouraging everyone to participate in our Black History Month Awareness Dress Code, where each week will feature a different theme highlighting various aspects of Black heritage.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up:

Week 1: HBCU Pride (February 1, 2025)

Kicking off Black History Month, we’re starting strong with a celebration of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). On February 1st, we invite you to rep your favorite HBCU by wearing school gear – whether it’s a hoodie, t-shirt, or even a hat. HBCUs have been pivotal in shaping the educational, cultural, and social landscape for generations of Black students. Show your pride and support for these legendary institutions, or simply wear the colors or logos of your alma mater!

Week 2: Caribbean Pride (February 8, 2025)

On February 8th, we’re turning up the vibrance with Caribbean Pride! The Caribbean has given the world some of the most powerful and joyful cultural expressions. This week is all about embracing the colors, patterns, and styles that represent the islands. Think bold prints, colorful garments, and accessories that capture the essence of Caribbean culture. Whether you’re Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, or from any other island, wear your heritage proudly!

Week 3: African Pride (February 15, 2025)

Our third week, February 15th, is dedicated to celebrating the heart of African pride and heritage. African fashion is rich, bold, and timeless. From the colorful, geometric patterns of kente cloth to the vibrant prints of Ankara, this day is your opportunity to showcase your finest African-inspired attire. If you have a favorite African piece in your wardrobe, wear it proudly, and let’s honor the incredible diversity of the African continent.

Week 4: African American Pride (February 22, 2025)

We’re wrapping up our Black History Month celebration on February 22nd by honoring African American pride. This is a day to celebrate the contributions, resilience, and achievements of the African American community. Whether you choose to wear a t-shirt with an empowering message, a cap with your favorite Black icon, or any piece of attire that represents African American pride, we want to see it! This day is about acknowledging how far we’ve come and celebrating how much more we can achieve.

Why Dress Codes Matter During Black History Month

You might be wondering, why focus on dress codes for Black History Month? The simple answer: Clothing is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression. By wearing attire that represents our culture, heritage, and pride, we connect with one another and remind ourselves of the rich history we’re all a part of.

The themes we’ve chosen for each week allow us to highlight the diverse threads that weave together the fabric of the Black experience. From HBCUs to the Caribbean, Africa, and the African American community, each aspect of our identity is something to celebrate and share.

Join Us in the Celebration!

We invite everyone at Mt. Calvary to join us in this month-long celebration. Whether you’re a member of our congregation or a guest, your participation matters. Dress in a way that reflects your pride, your culture, and your history. We can’t wait to see how you bring each theme to life!

Remember to share your photos with us and tag #MtCalvaryPride on social media so we can highlight your amazing looks! Let’s make this Black History Month a time of connection, reflection, and joy.
